As part of their careers programme, Year 10 girls recently took part in the Careers at Speed event at NGHS.
As the girls approach the start of Year 11 and a time when they’ll be making important choices about their future, we’re keen that they learn as much as possible about a broad range of careers to help them make informed decisions in the future. The event is also designed to gently introduce them to the idea of networking and meet some of our amazing alumnae.
So the fourth year of this highly successful event, organised by Head of Careers, Mrs Hansford, introduced Year 10 to eight female professionals from some very diverse careers in a speed networking format. Our visitors, who came from organisations including the BBC, the Spire Hospital and the RAF’s Red Arrows, answered lots of sometimes challenging questions from our girls ranging from, “what has been the highlight of your career so far ?” to, “what did you actually want to do when you were 15? “
The girls got a real flavour of careers such as Logistics, Public Health, and Pharmaceutical Research and the challenges of campaigning for Amnesty International and founding your own company. We hope the experience will inform their future career decision making and help them develop those invaluable networking skills.
