A Life in the Day of our inspirational Junior School.

Come and join in!

Our Nursery, Infant and Junior School is the most inspiring place, providing an excellent and challenging academic education, all wrapped up in a vibrant, fun and exciting setting. It’s also the start of an incredible educational journey and solid, lifelong relationships.

And we’d love for you to experience it for yourself at our Discovery Week this February.

Join us for a Life in the Day where you can watch our inspirational staff in action, see our dedicated students learn and get involved with the fun at play time. You’ll meet some of our wonderful girls, tour the school, and find out more about what makes us the best place in the region for your daughter.

If you can’t join us during the day, you can also come and visit us in the evening, where you’ll have the chance to talk in-depth to our teaching staff about their unparalleled approach to the curriculum, teaching and learning, and pastoral care.

You’ll discover more about:

Our staff

Focused on providing the very best education for our girls. They inspire girls through stimulating lessons, vibrant activities, creative resources and a continual focus on our RECIPE for success – resilience, empathy, creativity, initiative, positivity and excellence.

Our teaching techniques

The cutting edge of modern teaching methods. Working with our sister schools in the Girls’ Day School Trust, we are continually sharing best practice and ensuring our girls receive the most effective lessons and experiences possible.

Our inspiring curriculum

There are no stereotypes, no limitations and no barriers to girls achieving their very best. Our expertise in educating girls means we know how to make sure each and every girl is achieving her potential in the best possible environment for her.

Our girls learn from a bespoke NGHS mastery curriculum, following the principles of the National Curriculum with the exciting additions of deeper learning, empowering girls and providing opportunities to connect with local and international communities.

In Reception, Years 1 and 2, girls are taught by their class teacher in small class sizes, and they start enjoying specialist teaching for Sport, Computer Science and Music.

From Year 3 to 6, girls continue to follow our bespoke mastery curriculum, alongside developing independence and leadership skills.

Our excellent care

We have the best team possible here at NGHS to support and care for our girls. All our Teachers and Teaching Assistants know each and every girl personally, and all of our staff are trained in matters concerning health, safety and wellbeing. This ensures that all girls receive excellent care and our whole school community remains healthy and well looked after.

Our many and varied enrichment opportunities

To support pupils’ academic learning, our enrichment (extracurricular) timetable is brimming with opportunities. Our clubs and activities ensure that the girls’ love of learning is really brought to life. They can learn chess and Mandarin, take part in cricket, judo and tag rugby, join the choir or one of several orchestras and bands, and keep developing their skills through Maths, Speech and Drama and Book club.

By providing unique and stretching clubs before school, during break and lunch times and after school, we ensure that all of our pupils find something they love. By inspiring them to take their passions outside of the classroom, we enable them to truly excel in all that they do.

Our exciting spaces

Designed to deliver the best possible education for girls, we have hugely inspiring spaces, bringing out the best in every single girl.

  • Corridors and classrooms alive with colour and technology
  • Our own library packed with a growing collection of everybody’s favourite children’s books, plus regular visiting authors
  • Music room, always in use and full of joy as girls learn, rehearse and play a variety of instruments from steel pans to ukuleles.
  • IT suite which is used alongside individual iPads, to ensure that even our youngest girls join the technological age
  • Outdoor area with climbing and archery opportunities, nature and woodland, a mud kitchen and pizza oven.
  • Our incredible 1875 Sports Centre where girls can take part in cricket, gymnastics, dance, judo, netball and many other activities
  • The stunning Squire Performing Arts Centre, where girls can perform in a professional theatre to an auditorium of 250 from as early as four years old.

All this for less than you think

The cost of independent school education has been in the news a lot recently – but an NGHS education may cost less than you think. It is an investment in your daughter’s future that you will never regret, giving her a head start, as she develops lifelong confidence, opportunities and friendships.
