On Thursday 9 June we held our first ever Green Festival for Years 7, 8 and 9 with Year 12 taking an active role in the organisation of the event.
The morning commenced with fantastic performances from Year 12 band Jammie Dodgers and Chamber Choir as well as spoken word from Year 7 and 8 English students.
We also had guest speakers from The Woodland Trust and Flooglebinder, the latter via a Zoom link from a Turtle Conservation project in Greece. Throughout the day students enjoyed an Eco twist to their lessons as well as off-timetable activities like banner making and a scavenger hunt in The Arboretum, highlighting the way Climate and Sustainability issues are threaded throughout so many different subjects and aspects of life.
We also asked students to vote on a green focus for our school, the result of which will be announced on the last day of term. The day culminated in a variety of stalls and activities around our fantastic Space venue where we also had guests from Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, Nottingham Youth Climate Assembly and Veolia as well as talented members of staff sharing ideas for upcycling and sustainability.
All in all an informative and fun day was had by everyone, raising awareness and discovering new approaches to living a more sustainable lifestyle.
