As we draw to the close of another outstanding year of musical excellence – a year in which we were once again shortlisted in a national music department award – I wanted to take a moment to celebrate our achievements and look forward with excitement to the year ahead.
There have been so many opportunities for girls to get involved in music across the school. This term alone we have hosted several Senior and Junior formal and informal concerts, a production of Pinocchio, various Open Mics, plus our ongoing Junior Da Capo programme and all the individual one-to-one music exams where many of our girls received Merits and Distinctions.

Our one-to-one music lessons continue to be a cornerstone of our enrichment. There is a wealth of evidence supporting the many benefits of learning a musical instrument.
Research consistently shows that it enhances students’ well-being, supports both social and personal development, and is positively linked to academic success.
Our highly skilled team of professional musicians offer individual tuition in all orchestral and band instruments, as well as voice, music theory, music technology, and songwriting…the list goes on!
You can read more about our fantastic team of music professionals here.
And just because we’re off for the summer, it doesn’t mean that music ends when school does!

Here are my top 3 tips for a musical summer holiday
- If you are studying an instrument, try to play regularly over the summer. The holiday can be a great to time to investigate new repertoire and ideas
- Listen to as much different music as possible, and try to listen to a style you haven’t before. Listen to everything – Classical, Pop, Rock, Folk, Hip Hop, Jazz, World Music… the list is endless!
- Try and see some live music wherever you are in the world. Town squares, libraries, community centres always promote live music over the summer months.
