We had a wonderful afternoon spreading the happiness at our official Nursery launch celebration event with special guest Shonette Bason-Wood.

Our Nursery is the latest addition to the school enabling us to now provide our very special brand of education to girls as young as three. We’re delighted with how it’s going so far and our youngest girls are really enjoying being part of the NGHS family and we can’t wait to see them progress up the school.

We were thrilled to welcome special guest, Shonette Bason-Wood, to join us for the official launch event. Shonette was recently named as one of the happiest people in the UK and was therefore the perfect person to launch our Nursery because here at NGHS, we believe that a happy girl is a successful girl. Our own Nursery pupils and girls from Reception classes were joined by special guests and educators from around the East Midlands to hear Shonette talk about the importance of childhood happiness and innocence, and learn her techniques for inspiring children (and adults) to be kind and spread joy.

As well as being a happiness expert, Shonette is also a comedian and author, creator of the Spread the Happiness charity and also still teaches at a primary school. After her insightful, amusing and entertaining talk, Shonette cut the celebratory cake and then led a fun afternoon of activities including her famous ‘dough disco’, singing and dancing and blowing bubbles. Declaring everybody a ‘happiness super hero’ she then presented them with silver ‘negativity capes’ to reflect back any negativity around them. The girls in turn presented Shonette with a card and flowers to say thank you.

The afternoon was a great success and an education in happiness, not only for the girls but for their parents, teachers and educators from partnership schools alike, fitting in with the school ethos of having happiness at its core.

The inspiring use of our RECIPE for success at the Infant and Junior School sets the foundations for the girls’ time throughout their education. Resilience, Empathy, Creativity, Initiative, Positivity and Excellence play a part in everything the girls do, and everything the school believes in. And now with the successful opening of our new Nursery with its expert and dedicated staff, we are delighted to be able to offer inspirational education to girls from the age of three upwards.

Laura Fowler, Head of Nursery, Infant and Junior School, led the afternoon and enjoyed bringing so many people together for this inspirational event.

“What a fun and exciting afternoon we had to celebrate the official opening of the NGHS Nursery. I’m so proud to lead this very special environment, to welcome girls from the age of 3 and to see their happiness shining through in all that they do.”
