Extra curricular
We’re rated excellent for personal development as well as academic achievement by the Independent Schools Inspectorate.
Extraordinary opportunities
There is an extensive range of areas to choose from when it comes to enrichment opportunities and our girls seize every chance to broaden their horizons in an exciting variety of fields as you can see below:
Beyond the classroom
Alongside our first-class academic curriculum, we provide a vast array of enrichment and extracurricular opportunities so all of our girls have the chance to learn something new, hone their unique talents and skills, and step out of their comfort zones. It’s just one of the compelling reasons families choose NGHS.
Our girls enjoy so much more than an excellent academic education. We provide countless leadership opportunities, expand girls’ horizons and give them excellent advantages as they move up through the school, into university and/or on to their careers. They leave us as all-rounders. Smart, creative, confident and adventurous due to everything they learn here, inside the classroom and beyond.
Clubs and activities
From ballet to dissection, we have a huge and diverse number of clubs on offer at lunch time and after school. Whatever girls would like to try, we can make sure they have the opportunity to do so. There really are no limits.
GDST
As part of the Girls’ Day School Trust, we are able to enjoy many unique opportunities with our sister GDST schools including The Young Leaders’ Conference, networking events and mentoring from influential alumnae across a range of prestigious universities and careers as well as a vast range of Trustwide competitions. Girls learn so many life skills such as teamwork and leadership, while benefiting from the supportive family feel of belonging to the GDST.
Music
We offer tuition in a range of classical and contemporary instruments, music composition and conducting, orchestras, choir, exciting trips in the UK and overseas. The boundless enthusiasm and dedication of our music staff is what really drives our girls. They love to learn and especially to perform, not only at school but at countless external events and venues where they have proved excellent ambassadors of the school and make us very proud.
Performing arts
With our incredible Squire Performing Arts Centre, our girls enjoy many opportunities to perform on the stage of a professional theatre, play in the orchestra pit and even learn the technical skills of running a theatre. Not everybody wants to be in the limelight, and we cater for all needs from the budding actresses and singers, to the technical wizards behind the scenes. Our collaborations with professional arts organisions such City Arts, Unite the Scene and Mish Mash, bring unique and exciting opportunity to NGHS pupils. They enjoy taking part in workshops delivered by the professional companies who work with the Squire Performing Arts Centre, whether that’s poetry workshops, Dance, Drama or Music. Our modern academic approach means that pupils’ curiosity and love of learning is truly brought to life.
Outdoor learning
We have excellent outdoor learning opportunities on site, including our climbing wall and forest school area, Upnah Wood. This exciting outdoor space has an array of adventurous equipment plus a mud kitchen, firepit and pizza oven. Girls of all ages love to spend time here, harnessing the power that comes from being in the great outdoors.
Our Duke of Edinburgh scheme uptake is phenomenal and the World Challenge trips on offer so far have been jaw-dropping, from Kilimanjaro to Costa Rica. Closer to home, there is our Exploration Society which takes our girls to the hills, woodlands and rivers around the UK where they swim and surf, climb and abseil. They really are fearless in their thirst for adventure.
Sport
Breaking the mold at NGHS our girls enjoy all of the traditional sports such as netball and hockey, but more recently we’re smashing it with successes in football and rowing too. Our sports teams are motivated, fit, successful and have lots of fun besides. Girls continue to participate in sports throughout their whole time at NGHS, in clubs and competitions, free from stereotypes or limitations. They also enjoy a range of opportunities to travel and compete overseas, truly broadening their horizons.
