Sport
Sport at NGHS is all about participation, enjoyment and challenging yourself to be extraordinary.
Sport – you have to be in it to win it
Sports clubs are open to all girls, regardless of ability, and we employ visiting coaches in hockey, netball, football and gymnastics to help our PE staff which in turn helps us to ensure girls can reach their full potential. Our winter clubs include netball, hockey, swimming, football, gymnastics and cross country, with athletics, tennis and rounders in the summer. In addition we run teams and clubs in badminton, dance, cricket, table tennis and volleyball. Matches are held both midweek and on Saturday mornings and all fixtures and results can be found by clicking the image above.
It’s the taking part
We have a thriving rowing club which is linked to The Becket Rowing Club, who train both at lunchtimes and on Sunday mornings.
Many sports are linked into the House system, encouraging every girl to take part and help her House to victory. At the end of the year we have a full House sports day from Year 7 to Year 10 with Year 12 as the officials.
The PE Department are five times finalists in the Sporting School of the Year category at the annual Nottinghamshire Sports Review of the Year. Our teams represent the school in both local and county leagues and tournaments.
We also take part in the Girls’ Day School Trust hockey, netball, swimming, cross country, rounders and tennis rallies in which we always do well. We have significant numbers of girls playing at county level and above across a wide variety of sports and the top girls represent their country in international events at which they excel, and we offer some amazing overseas trips too – it really is a world of sport!
