Year 6 and Year 10 meet Victoria Blackburn

On Tuesday this week, girls from Year 6 and also Year 10, attended a presentation by Warrant Officer Victoria Blackburn, a member of the British Army’s FORCE ATLANTIC rowing team which recently completed one of the ultimate tests of physical and mental fortitude by entering the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge.  Victoria’s team of two men and two women rowed 3,000 miles across the Atlantic, rowing day and night over six weeks and stretching their physical health, mental health and endurance.

It was clear that the Army’s ethos of challenge, adventure, teamwork and leadership was not only inspiring for the Year 6 girls particularly, but it also links very closely to our own Junior School RECIPE.  Our girls were curious to hear about the routines, the hardships, and the importance of team encouragement to conquer the toughest of tasks.

We are always interested in hearing from adults who can share their professional stories with our pupils, and especially from those working in spheres where women continue to be under-represented.  Please email the school if you think you can help!
