by Psychology teacher Mr Garrett MoranĀ

Psychology is one of the most popular A-Levels in the Sixth Form and last year, a third of the A-Level group went on to study Psychology at university level. My aim was to increase awareness of the different professional careers available in the field of psychology with the first session looking at Clinical Psychology. My daughter qualified a couple of years ago and is working for the Norfolk NHS but came to the school to talk about the work she is involved with, including the typical day in the life of a Clinical Psychologist. Part of Katie’s job is working with a Youth Mental Health Service assessing young people and providing therapy for those with difficulties such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders, etc. Her work has certainly been cut out during the pandemic which has had a huge impact on the mental health of much of the population.

Katie outlined her career pathway with A-Levels, a BSc at the University of Nottingham, a PhD in Clinical Psychology at University of East Anglia and then the application process for her PhD course. The girls asked some interesting questions for Katie to be able to provide more insight into the varied, often difficult, but rewarding work of a Clinical Psychologist.
