Despite announcements of additional places at medical schools around the country, the competition for entry remains as fierce as ever.

To support our Year 13 students in their aspirations, our applicants for Dentistry and Medicine each had a one to one mock interview earlier this term with an experienced professional, each of whom was a fantastically supportive NGHS parent!

To enhance this experience, our Head of Careers Mrs Hansford, arranged for interview coach Pooja Devani from Step2Med to come into school on Friday 15 November and talk to our students about interview tactics and skills, focussing particularly on the Multiple Mini Interview format used by the majority of medical and dental schools.

It was a pretty intensive afternoon but Dr Devani said later of the NGHS girls that “the standard was honestly fantastic”. Our girls found the course really helpful and hopefully the experience will give them more confidence as they receive their invitations to ‘real’ interviews.

Our Careers provision is geared to help girls through every step of the journey from UCAS applications to job interviews. Having the help and support of the parent community is invaluable and we are very grateful to them. Making use of experts also plays a huge part in paving the way to a successful future. We know this works – just look at our A Level successes last year with 15% of our girls going on to study Dentistry or Medicine.
