This year for Culture Day on Friday 8 March, we wanted to promote the diversity of beautiful cultures within our community, following a whole week of fabulous activities.

We had a fun-packed week, beginning with an amazing Afghan dance workshop run by Maisa and her sister, Safora. Thank you both for sharing your skills! Our students loved having a go and wearing the colourful traditional dress.

On Tuesday, we were visited by fashion students from Nottingham Trent University where students learnt how to drape and design outfits inspired by different cultures. Thank you to Betsy, Antonia and Jordan!

Wednesday was our Cultural Cooking competition! It was an incredible atmosphere and we have our staff to thank: Mrs Shipman, Mr Brown, Mrs Blasco, Mrs Sommers and Mrs Jones for supporting and judging.

Our winners were:

Third place – May and Holly for their gluten free Victoria Sponge.

Second place – Kardem, Lois, and Sandhya for their fusion of kisir with paneer and naan.

First place: Amaliya and Isabella for their Jamaican fried dumplings and vegetable curry.

Prizes were kindly donated by T4 and Kayal.

On Thursday, we had another visitor, Nipa, from Nipa Therapy Talks who led a poetry workshop that facilitated some moving, hilarious and witty poems. Well done to all who attended!

And finally, on Friday, Culture Day itself, teachers and students came in clothes representing something about their culture. It was noted throughout the day how beautiful and proud everybody looked! All year groups (even some enthusiastic Year 5s!) also attended the International Marketplace, stalls run by our amazing students who volunteered to show their cultural food, jewellery, language and interests. Thank you to those students, parents, carers and teachers who made this all happen.

Music was also provided by Mr Barratt, school bands Mediocre and The Quackers, and the Staff Band. Last but not least, our Year 11s on the karaoke! We also had an assembly from the charity, Nottingham Refugee Forum, with a refugee speaker on call where students attentively listened to her experience and asked insightful questions.

Thank you all for your respect and support. We were able to raise over £460 for the charity! We think it was a successful day, and we hope to see you all again next year.
