December and the lead up to Christmas is of course, celebrated with music, but there’s a lot more to it than that at NGHS.

From the moment pupils join us in our Nursery they are encouraged to have a go with a musical instrument. This soon develops into a love of music and confidence in performing. By the time they leave our Sixth Form our students are accomplished, talented and polished musicians, and we’re incredibly proud of them.

There is always music and singing to be heard everywhere around the school, and the autumn term is particularly busy as it takes us to the Christmas break. Since we came back to school after half-term this year there have been SO many wonderful events shared with our community, many of them raising significant amounts of money for charity. Take a look:

  • The Strings Teatime Concert
  • The Windblowers Cup Final
  • Rough Trade Night (raised £1000 for the Music Department)

  • The Infant and Junior Winter Lights concert
  • The Senior School Christmas Concert
  • Music at Michaelmas at All Saints’ Church

  • Christmas busking in Nottingham City Centre (raised over £1000 for the PASIC charity)
  • Singing for residents at the Radford Care Group
  • Open Mic event in the Dining Hall

  • Beautiful Carol Service with all school choirs and a staff choir at St Mary’s Church in the Lace Market.
  • Lovely atmospheric carol service again at St Mary’s in the Lace Market in mid-December.

We also produce radio shows and videos thanks to the endless talents of Mr Rolfe and the boundless enthusiasm of our ever-eager students who are always ready and willing to be involved. Listen to the latest edition of the radio show HERE.

The latest episode of our Music Department magazine Tuning Up contains so many fabulous highlights including some of our festive offerings – take a look and listen. It’s totally amazing and so wonderful to see performances from across the whole school including our Staff Choir!

We all love music here and one of the reasons it is so popular and successful is the fact that we have the most amazing, dedicated and talented team of teaching staff. Take a look at their profiles, their experience and expertise, and their passion for the subject which shines through in the talent of those they teach. We really are very lucky to have them.
