As our pupils move up the school and gain experience, they are the best people to show their younger peers the ropes. Who better to advise you than somebody who has been through what you’re about to go through. Read our guest blog by Head Girl, Sophie.

The support system for pupils here at NGHS was already pretty much infallible but, as part of our goal to ensure girls feel confident in their ability whilst having a safety net of support, we decided to reform the mentoring system.

Designed to maintain the wellbeing and sense of security for our GCSE students, our new mentoring programme ensures all the Year 10 and 11 girls can easily contact a mentor, giving them the opportunity to improve their skills and, with the pressure of exams, make sure that anything they are struggling with is fixed! We have set up a system where Year 12s kindly volunteer to become mentors to the GCSE girls in the subjects they choose to specialise in, ensuring the best possible results. This is also a great opportunity for the Year 12 students to consolidate their own skills and help out younger girls, strengthening the community here at NGHS. Lockdown hasn’t stopped us going ahead with this. Girls are still able to meet with their mentor via Google Meet, allowing NGHS students to stay connected!

Our aim is to help any hesitant Year 10 and 11s to be unafraid to ask for support and achieve the best they can in their exams, as well as acquainting them with the Year 12s who they will be joining in the Sixth Form.
