Two of our Year 13 girls are soon to embark on a mission to represent the UK as delegates of the National Council of Women Great Britain at the United Nations CSW61 (Commission on the Status of Women 61) in New York.

Jenny Raw and Rachel Wibberley have been chosen to attend this hugely significant event due to their involvement with the National Council of Young Women which was launched here in 2008 by Barbara Maddison, an alumna and member of founder group, the National Council of Women.

This is a wonderful opportunity for the girls to put forward the views of young women by way of a Youth Statement for which they are gathering information. The main theme this year is women’s economic empowerment in the changing world of work, but there will also be discussion on challenges and achievements in the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals for women and girls, and the empowerment of indigenous women.

We are very proud of Jenny and Rachel and this fantastic, special opportunity that they have been given – we know they will be great ambassadors for the school and for the young women of the United Kingdom. They have launched an online blog in the lead up to their trip and will be updating it regularly, especially once they get to New York. You can follow their blog at this link.
