On Thursday 18 April, Year 12 students heard from eleven recent NGHS Alumnae at our University Networking event.

The event started with a panel discussion, where the Alumnae shared their thoughts on university study, student life and the application process. The students then moved into small group discussions, where they had the opportunity to hear more from an Alumna about her particular experience and engage in conversation, asking questions about courses, accommodation, personal statements and more.

Our Alumnae shared their top tips on completing UCAS applications and attending open days, and even shared some of their own anecdotal experiences. The feedback from students was very positive, with many of them feeling the event was insightful and commenting on how valuable it was to hear of others’ experiences first hand.

One student commented that, Gaining information from a first-hand source who already experienced what we go through was an insightful experience. The knowledge I gained was practical and realistic, and the advice provided was extremely helpful. It was a good learning experience that gave me different perspectives.”

Our Year 12 students will be taking part in various sessions over the coming weeks as we make a start on completing UCAS applications, with the support of their PSHE tutors, Form Tutors, Mrs Sommers (Head of Sixth Form) and Mrs Cooke (Head of Careers), who are all available to support students throughout their research and the application process.

We would like to thank our Alumnae for their support with this event, it was wonderful to see them back in school and visiting a few familiar faces! We wish them all the best as they now return to university for end of year assessments.
