Our Junior School girls are a resilient bunch and despite the snow, they made it into school in their amazing costumes (with a little help from their parents) for World Book Day 2018.

They started the day with a fun and informative assembly led by our librarian before lining up for photographs. All sorts of story characters were present from the Harry Potter  books, Roald Dahl stars, Alice in Wonderland, Gangsta Granny and even superheroes including Spiderman made an appearance.

Everybody really enjoyed reading and sharing all of the ’50 Word Story’ entries in which the winners were Verity Maxwell in 5C and Elizabeth Fairhurst in 2W. There were prizes for these girls, along with prizes for girls nominated by their teachers for exceptional Reading Journal learning. Year 6 Book Club also hosted entertaining assemblies for all the Junior girls during this special week – it really has been a great week for everything to do with books!

The abundance of creativity in the display of World Book Day costumes shows the broad range of reading covered by our Junior School girls. They really do love books and have old favourites as well as new discoveries. There were even members of the Royal Family present too, which was a real privilege. World Book Day 2018

Among other activities that took place throughout the day, Year 5 girls created a set of Top Trump cards – the Tudor edition, looking at powerful females in the Tudor times. There were of course, stories and reading activities, and even time to play in the snow.

World Book Day is always such a treat here at school, and we’re already looking forward to next year!
