Our Nursery, Infant and Junior’s have been super busy this term! We’ve rounded up all of the latest news below:

Woodwork with Nursery

Girls in our Nursery class recently embarked on an exciting collaboration with Mr Fenn from the Senior School’s Design & Technology department – over the coming weeks, they will spend time with him creating push-along toys!

This innovative project is all about developing resilience, language and vocabulary, as well as learning practical skills such as using sandpaper and simple tools. It will also involve opportunities to improve hand-eye coordination, as well as instilling a sense of respect as they learn the risks of using tools. The girls are very excited about these lessons and are looking forward to playing with their finished products!

Eddie the Penguin Saves the World – Our KS1 Production

Our Year 1 and 2 pupils gave us a wonderful performance of Eddie the Penguin Saves the World. Their musical lesson in environmentally responsible behaviors was beautifully woven into the story of Eddie, humans, and his feathered and furry friends. They certainly gave the audiences food for thought, with some very practical and achievable tips for how ‘small changes can help to save our planet’, including:

Walking and cycling to school

Planting trees

Reducing waste, reusing and recycling

This was a great collaboration between our classes, and it was an absolute pleasure to see our girls all shining on stage!

Year 3 Residential to Yorkshire

Year 3 have just returned from a stretching study visit to Yorkshire. This was their very first residential trip, and therefore an important milestone in their school lives.

The packed two-day programme included, archaeology and Viking saga workshops curated by the renowned Jorvik Centre, an evening walking tour of the City of York, and an exploration of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

Mrs Baker and Miss Bailey said it was lovely to see everyone collaborating and extending friendship groups, sharing the novelty and responsibilities of dormitory life for one night, and enjoying opportunities to consolidate and apply  their learning beyond the classroom. Working in unfamiliar environments and encouraging independence with changed routines are both important aspects of overnight stays and developing self-confidence. Well done to all pupils!

Year 4 Informal Concert

Our Year 4 pupils treated a packed Junior School hall to their first ever collective music recital, demonstrating outstanding musicality as they performed on a huge variety of instruments.

The concert took us from 16th century folk music and Beethoven to the likes of Weezer and Queen. As well as demonstrating musical talent, the girls also performed with true heart and passion, and with delightful smiles.
